Beating hummingbird wings
Thousands, or millions, of them
Feathers not shining green like grass
Dull soot layers few pierced green glitter through
Even now a silence like trees
A coming storm with wind
Blowing in dark water
To put out the fire past the sky
Raindrops burn worse than fire could
Filling lungs where air has been suffocated
No route of escape, no ventilation
Burning potential sounds in watery pyre
Drowning in a silence like beating and leaves,
Like ash choking, like wind and water
Extinguishing all the more-than-words
With deaf, mute, gurgling fear.
